Neck shaping

SSJ neck shaping is done. Shaping for the neck volute is also done. This neck is the V-joint design between peg head and the neck. Therefore the volute portion is the glue line between the neck and the peg head. I also glued a 0.6mm thickness back plate on the peg-head. Back plate veneer material is Walnut.

SSJ guitar construction is pretty much done. I will have sanding sessions for the entire body, and then I will start  finishing work.

Truss rod and Fingerboard install

After install the neck, additional truss rod channels were made for graphite rods and an adjustable truss rod. As you can see the first photo, this design has through truss rods reinforcement from the nut to the sound hole. Therefore, there is almost zero change to the neck rising issue from the neck joint. Steel strings guitars that have Martin type dove tail joint have common issue for the neck re-setting requirement due to the neck rising issue.

For installing the adjustable rod, it requires a thin wood cover over the installed adjustable rod for sealing the finger board gluing. Finger board edge at the sound hole also needs a fine alignment as shown in the second picture. Neck joint at the cut-a-way portion was also precisely aligned as perfectly seamless joint as shown in the 3rd picture.

Next week, I finalize neck shaping, and then I will take final sanding. 

Neck shaping

     Neck rough shaping, armrest install, heal cap install, and machine hole drilling are done. Now necks are ready for the joint to the body. For the nylon model, I have been using a wooden armrest instead of the beveled armrest. Sound board for the Nylon model is very sensitive from the right hand arm holding. Actuary, very sensitively designed nylon strings guitar sound is easily spoiled by the right hand arm holding. 

     For the heal cap, I used the same material as the matched finger board. SSJ model has the African black wood heal cap, and the nylon model has the Brazilian rosewood heal cap. I will install necks next week, and then complete the neck shaping.
